The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a specialization in Software degree program from Western Governors University provides students with the skills and knowledge to acquire software development skills.  The core components of the information technology, software program provide students with a broad and rigorous foundation across various information technology areas including project management, e-commerce, security, software, databases, operating systems, and networks.  There are eleven areas of study including Networks; Collegiate Reasoning and Problem Solving Skills; IT-Specialization in Software; Programming Fundamentals; Leadership and Professionalism; Technical Writing (includes Capstone and Portfolio); IT Management; General Education Distribution; Language and Communication Skills; Quantitative Literacy; and Information Technology Fundamentals.

Students receive a strong theoretical and practical background in software effectiveness, evaluation, testing, and development and learn many programming models and languages.  Graduates with a BS in information technology/software work in various setting such as development and research.
