Students can work with the financial advisors at the university to determine which loan program or grant will meet their needs and suit their eligibility requirements. In some cases, students in West Virginia or in surrounding areas may qualify for reduced fees through special education incentive programs. Non-residents and online students may also qualify for residential rates through a special opportunity through the Southern Regional Education Board. Student tuition rates will vary based on type of degree, online or on campus courses and resident status.

West Virginia University offers a wide range of continuing education and professional development classes. These are offered both as online as well as on-campus programs, many with evening courses or weekend dates that make it easy for current professionals to complete their training without having to take time off from work. Many of these courses can lead towards credits for degree programs at a later date or may also lead to specific certifications.

In some cases, professionals may also receive credit for their work experience prior to starting a degree program. One popular course of study offered online is the Multidisciplinary Studies BA, which allows students to complete three different minors within on Bachelor of Arts program. This is an ideal opportunity for students to get a broad base of education for further specialization in later degrees or to simply be more equipped for a work environment. Since all instructors are professionals in their respective area as well as hold advanced level degrees, all courses are very practical and applicable to real world scenarios. In addition, most of the career programs such as the online RN to BSN program are taught by currently practicing professions, ensuring that students understand the current trends in nursing and healthcare as well as the current technology in use within the profession. Master level courses are also offered online and include health, business and educational programs. Each course is offered either as an online, blended, or on-campus course. Blended courses combine online classes with in-person weekend, evening or summer school programs.
