The Master of Science in Human Services with a specialization in Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling/Therapy program is designed to provide students with a degree that is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Capella University is the only university of its kind to receive such accreditation. The specialization in mental health counseling was accredited in 2003, and the marital, couple, and family counseling/therapy specialization was accredited in 2005. Both specializations have accreditation through the year 2011. This is the longest accreditation term granted by CACREP. Persons in this program are taught how to apply systems-based counseling theories and research methods in order to focus on relationship building with families and couples.
