Those responsible for our public safety have a really daunting task on their hands, but the safety of everyone is very important for all of our well being. Some examples of "public safety" include emergency services such as fire and rescue, EMT and ambulances, and police officers. All of these departments are there to assist us when in dire need or emergencies. The study of public safety examines how we can all change and develop better public policy that will ensure all people are taken care of in the event of an emergency. Some other examples of public safety include animal control officers, emergency call centers, and even consumer protection. While public safety is a general term, it's important for students interested in a career in any of these realms to take a course on the subject so that they can get a clearer picture of how these different organizations work to help our citizens.
