Veterinary science is the study of medicine for animals and how we can help animals in need. Veterinarians typically help animals such as cats, dogs, birds, and other domestic pets. Many vets (as they are called for short) also help out with horses that need medical assistance. This is a separate branch of veterinary science called equine veterinary medicine. There are also other branches that study the medical treatment of wild animals. Today, animals are receiving some of the most modern treatments to date. A veterinarian can perform such operations as heart surgery, root canals, hip replacements, and treat cancers. Thanks to the dedication of many who have studied veterinary science in the past, our beloved pets can now have high quality health care. For students passionate about animals and for those who want to make sure they're taken care of, veterinary science is an excellent field to get into.
