Nursing Scholarship

Nursing scholarships are much more prevalent due to the increasing demand for qualified and trained nurses. Most major specialty hospitals, research hospitals and managed care hospitals in the United States now offer internal scholarships for currently employed nurses that want to move from their RN to BSN (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree or those that want to move into healthcare management, Master level nursing in specialized areas or nursing administration. With this wealth of internal scholarships there has also been an increase in outside private scholarships for students entering nursing schools or those that are interested in continuing their training in more advanced fields.

One program offered by the American Cancer Society is the Master in Nursing for Cancer Treatment scholarship. This program provides up to $10,000 for a two-year period. The ACS also offers a Doctoral scholarship for nurses in cancer treatment, which is granted for two-years at $15,000 per year with the possibility of renewal up to another two years. Not only do specialized treatment programs offer financial assistance to nurses to increase their level of training but state education departments also provide financial support. The New York State Education Department offers a listing of different nursing scholarships offered through government sources as well as through private memorial funds and foundations. Most other states provide information on federal and state grants for nurses through their own department of education website.

The military and different government departments offer full-time scholarships for nurses of active duty military personnel or for children or spouses of specific government officials or military staff.
